On Wednesday, February 3, the 10th Annual Sixth Grade Family Math and Science Night took place at Tyrrell. Students and family members engaged in many activities to enhance the Math and Science curriculums. The sixth grade math and science teachers received a grant from the Wolcott Education Foundation to purchase consumable materials and prizes for the evening. The families practiced estimation, measurement, communication, and problem solving, to increase their logical thinking. Some of the many stations that captured the interests of the participants included: Fraction Bowling, Exploring with Microscopes, Construction by Instruction, Balloon Jet Races, Toothpick Puzzles, and Drops on a Penny. More than twenty National Junior Honor Society members provided assistance to families at many of the stations. The excitement concluded with presenting prizes to the students that most accurately estimated the number of items in a variety of jars as well as prizes to the families for parent participation in certain events. Thank you to all that helped make this night a success.
