Principal’s Message
I am pleased to announce that Wolcott High School has been selected as a Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Michaels Achievement Cup recipient for its athletic accomplishments during the 2009-2010 school year. The Michaels Cup is now under the jurisdiction of the CIAC with a new direction which recognizes schools who continually provide exemplary athletic programs. The CIAC defines “exemplary” as “athletic participation, academic success, equitable opportunities, trained and professional personnel, chemical-free programs and environment, athletic achievement, and a clear sense of sportsmanship marked by high ethical and moral standards.” Wolcott High School finished second in the M classification. Congratulation to Mr. Joe Monroe, Athletic Director, and all those who helped us achieve this prestigious honor.
On another note, Freshmen Orientation will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25th in the WHS auditorium. At that time we will officially welcome the Wolcott High School Class of 2014. Freshmen parents/guardians will receive more information in a special mailing in early August. Until then, I wish each of you a safe and restful summer, and I look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Warm Regards, Robert Eberle, Ed.D.

I want to take this opportunity to inform you that Mrs. Nevin’s AP U.S. History students, who have been participating in the inter-district “Preserving Our Histories” program won first place for their website. Additionally, the Wolcott/Watertown team of presenters also placed first in the presentation category. Wolcott presenters were Marisa McCann and Tayler Mazurski. Although several students worked on the website, Shannon Blankschen, Caitlin Forte, and Marisa McCann took primary responsibility for its development. This truly outstanding program called upon our students to utilize 21st Century Skills. Congratulations to all who participated!Â
It is hard to believe but the 2009-2010 school year is quickly coming to a close. Graduation is set for Friday, June 18, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wolcott High School Monroe Field. Congratulations to the Class of 2010!
Warm Regards, Robert Eberle, Ed.D.
March 11, 2010
I want to take this opportunity to apprize you of what Mrs. Nancy Nevins and students from her AP United States History class have been doing. Since last November, they have been participating in the inter-district program, “Preserving our Histories”. This program is designed to integrate the techniques of “doing history” with 21st century skills by creating a five minute broadcast quality documentary on the experiences of a World War II veteran.
Although our students have been working co-operatively with Watertown High School students, each school will be creating a website, using WordPress. Each site will contain the actual documentary, links to their historical research, and will document the process of making their film. They will also be presenting their work in a competition on April 29, 2010 and their documentary will be shown at the Connecticut Student Film Festival on May 7, 2010.
Also, I am pleased to announce that Adam Swatt is our 2010 Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest Champion. Adam will be representing Wolcott High School in the statewide competition on Tuesday, March 16,, 2010 at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford. This program was created by the National Endowment of the Arts and the Poetry Foundation to encourage high school students to memorize and perform great poems. Poetry Out Loud accomplishes this by integrating the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word, and theater into the English class. Congratulations!
Warm Regards, Robert Eberle, Ed.D.

COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE
2010 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The principal, Dr. Robert E. Eberle, of Wolcott High School announced today that Iona K. Brockie and Jessica L. Carichner have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2010 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
“Recognition of high-achieving students is essential to advancing educational excellence in our nation,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “As demonstrated by their outstanding performance in our highly competitive program, the young men and women named Commended Students represent some of the most academically talented students in our country. We sincerely hope this recognition will enhance their educational opportunities and encourage them in their pursuit of academic success.”
